Since I was a child, as early as 3 years old, I started moving my body. I played every sport until I started high school. Then in high school, I chose to focus my energy on volleyball and high and low hurdles.
After high school, going to the gym, and exploring other workouts, I ultimately took on running as my ultimate passion. Running is where I feel the most free. Lifting weights is when I feel the most powerful. However, being able to do this is hard work. It takes a lot of preparing the body and conditioning to maintain this level of exercise.
Throughout my life, to know me was to know I was always trying a new class, attempting a new sport or at the local gym with a trainer or in a group class. As a matter of fact, one of the hardest things for me to do is to sit.
For me, moving my body makes me feel the most connected to my mind, body and spirit. It's my therapy, it's when I feel the most free and the most healthy and present. It's my medicine, and it's when I feel like the truest version of myself.
My hope for you all, is to in some way, open your mind to a new, positive and hopeful mindset when attempting to move your body, to feel empowered and to learn to be an active part of your health and wellness. To take a chance on the unknown, to make yourself uncomfortable in hopes of learning a lifelong skill that will positively impact the projection of your life.
I would love for one of my courses ( I plan to make one for each area of the body, not just the hip) to be the start of a big, new healthy shift. A chance for you to learn how to move your body, and to invest in your longevity and work towards aging and moving gracefully so you can live a full, and healthy life, independently as you age.
So how did I get here? Well after 14 years of practicing as a Doctor of Chiropractic, my main goal is always to encourage movement. Because I believe moving your body is one of the most profound things you can do for yourself.
However, throughout the years, I noticed a trend. Most people have similar struggles:
- There is a deep lack of connection with our bodies and our mind. Meaning, we struggle to describe our pain, we aren't sure how to deal with the pain, and therefore we avoid the pain or issue.
- There is a fear or a lack of knowledge of how to move or what routine or habit to form in order to manage or overcome the pain or injury.
- There is a general lack of true consistency in healthy habits and the ability to make time to move and connect to our bodies.
Due to the fact that I can only help people in person who are able to come into my practice and become my patients, and even then, we are restricted by time, and the ability to truly add the home care and active care after our visit. Mostly because the focus is on physically releasing the issue that they come in for. Which doesn't leave much time to go over exercises and routine support on how to keep the injury away once I've managed to fix it.
Because of all of these little nuances, I have always had a deep longing to be able to help and provide the information and support in an organized way to help as many people as possible. It doesn't have to be complicated or time consuming. You just have to have access to it.
I am also aware that not all people can afford to see me, and not everyone in my area can come and see me as a patient. It takes time and energy to provide the knowledge and guide you through a program that can be beneficial to you, depending on what the issue is. So the office environment doesn't necessarily make this part easy.
So creating these courses is my way of helping those who cannot come to see me, or who cannot afford my 1:1 sessions.
We all deserve to live long and healthy lives and I would love nothing more than for everyone to know how they can do that for themselves, and in the comfort of their own homes. You don't need any equipment, all you need is the curiosity :)
